Sitting outside in the summer is a great way to relax and enjoy time as a family. The problem you may have is not knowing about the plants that can help keep you safe from the mosquitoes that see you as a smorgasbord as soon as you walk out your door. Here are three plants that you can have in pots to keep the mosquitoes on the defensive.
Citronella is one of the plants that people will probably recognize because so many people get citronella candles. However, what they need to realize is that these candles are not as strong as the plant itself and at times the light from the candle can attract the bugs. With the plants, though, they do not have the light and have a much more potent scent to them which keeps the pest away.
Catnip is another plant that people will enjoy growing. The catnip does have to be close to people for it to work on repelling the mosquitoes but it will help in keeping them at bay. For a more potent affect some people rub catnip leaves on their body to get rid of the bugs.
Lavender is a very powerful repellent for bugs of all types. Not to mention it can be put into spray bottles and can be safe for kids of any age to use as well. The lavender plants have a great scent to them and they tend to help keep almost every bug you can imagine away from you.
Being able to enjoy the warm summer nights is a good thing. However, for a lot of people they will notice the mosquitoes can barge in and ruin the fun. Hopefully, having a sampling of these plants on hand will get you back outside to enjoy your summer with friends and families again.
