Your RV power cords are your life lines to easy living in your home away from home. Taking care of these is smart RVing and we have a few tips to help. Since your power cord is almost always outside in the weather and not really thought of much once you’re hooked up, it can easily become neglected. If you don’t want to replace it any sooner than necessary there are a few things you can do.
Inspect the Cord – When the cord is disconnected from the power source, look it over closely for any damage. If there are small nicks and cracks that do not go through to the inside wiring you can wrap the cord with electrical tape to mend it.
Inspect the Plug – Check the plug-in end to be sure the prong have not been bent or damaged. If they are slightly bent you can move them gently back in to place with pliers.
Clean the Plug – You can clean corrosion from the prongs with emery paper or fine grit sand paper.
Turn the breaker off before you plug the cord in and when you’re unplugging the cord pull from the plug itself, not the cord. Now you just wipe the cord clean before you store it and you are good to go.
